Awhile back these pictures where released of Katie Courics’ massively doctored promo pictures for CBS. Now I’ll let all you sharp minds in the blogosphere use your strong deductive reasoning skills to figure out which is the before and which is the after picture. What’s my point? She fooled millions but had to deal with the REAL truth every day. Isnt that the way we so often deal with ourselves? We spend a lot of time and energy working on our “image”(what we want people to think we are) rather than working on actually becoming that person. We expose ourselves to as little truth about ourselves as possible.
The other morning I was up and at um at 6am and steph texted me to ask what I was up to(if you think that’s weird get over it lol). This is how the conversation went:
Stephanie – “what are you up to babe”
Mark – “Writing a blog”
Stephanie – “I really like your blog but its been kinda boring lately.”
Mark – “OH… Good morning to you too”
Now before you get all defensive and say, “wow how rude” let me say something. SHE WAS RIGHT…SHE ALWAYS IS (She reads this and that was for her don’t tell her I said that though). And we have an awesome relationship that fosters brutal honesty and I love that. Now although it was true it wasn’t something that I had noticed and she gave me maximum exposure to that reality. At that point I could have got defensive and rejected the truth but it wouldn’t have made it any less true. We need to actively seek out those that love us to lovingly expose us to the truth so that we can grow and change.
