Pastor Mike Servello Jr. gave me a great little book and I just read it to day cover to cover (it’s 85 pages LOL). That book is WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. BAD HABITS AND ADDICTIONS by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend. Its awesome and I wanted to use this blog to pass on the “executive summery” of the book. But if you have a chance and the topic appeals to you I urge you to pick it up.
In the book they share 8 principles that are a guide to recovery from addiction.
Principle 1: Begin your journey with God
“Meaningful faith must be placed in a real Person who knows the way for you and promises to lead you on it.”
Principle 2: Choose your traveling companions wisely
“People who rise to the top seldom get there alone. They seek help.”
Principle 3: Place high value on wisdom
“A key way out of despair is to find the missing pieces of wisdom and apply them to your problem.”
Principle 4: Leave your baggage behind
Principle 5: Own your faults and weakness
“In your life the buck stops with you.”
Principle 6: Embrace Problems as gifts
“Welcome your problems as gifts from God to help you become a better person.”
Principle 7: Take life as it comes
Principle 8: Love God with all you are
“Getting to know God and loving him with everything you are is a lifelong journey.”
