RISK WORTHY

Matthew 9:9 (NLT) As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him.

Growing up I was always the risk taker. Others called it crazy or stupid but I find it more sophisticated to call my self a “risk taker”. I would risk that the rope would hold, or that my neck wouldn’t get broken, or the bull wouldn’t charge me after throwing multiple rocks at it. Now that I’ve grown I still love taking risks. I love putting physical challenges before me that risk either failure or injury. I do it because it makes me feel alive.
I started to think about risk & how I see young people taking what I call “stupid” risks every day. Risking that their fornication won’t result in disease, pregnancy or falling out of Gods will. Risking that the drug they inject in their arm that they bought on the corner from that shady guy won’t kill them. They risk it ALL by ignoring what God says about the life and current situations. All of these fall into the category of “STUPID” risk (like the guy in todays picture). But for a few days I want to talk about worthwhile risks
Risk #1…. RISK IT ALL TO FOLLOW GOD. So much of what God teaches us through his word is wildly counter cultural. “Give and it will be given unto you”. “The first will be last and the last will be first”. My goodness the whole concept of forgiveness is radically counter cultural. When we get go and let God that is a big risk. Matthew took a HUGE risk when Matthew left it all to follow Christ. It was a risk financially, socially & vocationally. If your following Jesus is “risk free” you might not really be following Jesus, because to obey the voice of God brings constant risk. Risk that when your give generously he will provide. When your obey his voice & share your faith that the person will receive it. Its worth the risk. Life is all about risk. I encourage you to take the greatest risk of all and Give it all up to follow Jesus
