2 Timothy 2:3 (NLT) Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
A GOOD soldier? Paul is making a distinction among soldiers. Growing up is learned little song “I’m in the Lords army, YES SIR!”. But there was no mention of rank in the little nursery rhyme I would sing. Romans 2:11 says “For God does not show favoritism”. BUT he does honor faithfulness, discipline and those that strive to conform themselves to His word. 2 Timothy 2:20-22 (NLT) says “In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. 21 If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. 22 Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” This verse is saying there is definitely rank in the kingdom. The good news is that it isn’t determined by race or family background or if I was home schooled or went to public school. Its determined by the decisions I make for myself. I want to be not just “a” soldier but a “GOOD” soldier, the one that God calls upon to do a “good work”. Don’t settle for second best of for simply being enlisted but strive to be a good soldier. Strive to set yourself apart from the crowd.
